Reiki (ray-kee) means spiritually guided life force energy.
This energy animates every living thing, and can be harnessed and shared to maximize health and wellness.
Reiki has been used as a natural healing modality since the early 20th century, spreading from Japan to the United States, and is used in institutions such as hospitals and hospices.
Reiki has been proven to:
- Decrease pain and speed healing
- Lower stress and anxiety
- Induce states of deep relaxation
- Ease difficult mental and emotional states
- Provide comfort at the end of life
Anyone can learn Reiki to support their own wellbeing and their loved ones. Some go on to use it professionally, but it is not only for health professionals — and in troubling times, it’s a wonderful tool to have and to share.
As a form of energy healing, Reiki is an ideal modality to be taught and shared long distance.
There are three levels of training:
- Level One opens you to work with Reiki energy for self and loved ones
- Level Two gives you tools to work more deeply and also send distance healing
- Level Three/Master gives you the tools and training to teach and share Reiki with others and work at a deeper level.
Reiki is unique in that it is passed from teacher to student in a lineage that began with the founder, Mikao Usui, in 1922. A sacred ritual called an attunement is one of the hallmarks of the Reiki healing system.
This training is one-on-one, allowing me to meet you where you are and gear the classes to you. I consider being your teacher a sacred contract, and will always be available to you after your training for questions and support.

It’s been my honor and privilege to teach Reiki since 1998. I was first attuned to Level One in 1992 when I was still early in my massage therapy career and more of a deep tissue oriented gal. It took me a while to truly understand the power of a lighter touch in working with this subtle yet potent energy. But I always incorporated Reiki into my sessions, especially if my client presented with an injury that couldn’t take pressure or was dealing with an emotional issue.
After my mom died in 2012, I volunteered for my local hospice organization. I was thrilled when they asked if we had any skills we could offer hospice patients and Reiki was specifically named. It’s what I ended up receiving the most assignments for during those three years — not only to give Reiki to patients, but also to their anxious and overextended caregivers. What a gift to be able to offer such palpable relief to those who were suffering.
